Torturer Concept


I took a break today from Modeling to play with the Torturer idea. I know I want to give them a large amount of armor compared to the rest of the Traducers, seeing how this is a major melee class.

Still Alive..


I've been practicing skinning my model. I'm not having the best luck, but once I get the hang of it, I'll post some animations!

Made some progress with skeletons today! I still have a long way to go.. very tedious process it is.

First Model: Corrupter

I love the idea of having this character running around some random levels like Gauntlet.

There are still a lot of steps before this character comes to life. I'm trying to keep all models under 2k polys, this one is approximately at 860. I still need to work on his corrupted arms and optimize his normal hands.

I'll try updating tomorrow.

I changed the hair around a bit, the structure just wasn't there. I also added some light to create more depth when rendering it out.

Final Corrupter


This is it! The corrupter, final. Next stop, modelville for him. He was a nasty sucker, I spent all day fighting with that side view and then finally it came together.

The Corrupted becomes the Corrupter

I was happy how the Executioner final concept came out, I decided to add some color to one of the previous Corrupter pieces. Still trying to keep the punk look, I gave him some crazy colored hair.

Anyway, it's a WIP, the arms will be seperate for modelers enjoyment.

Programmer Needed

So the hardest part of this project is finding a skilled programmer that is willing to devote the time to a project that is not their own. If anyone knows anyone, send them to the site, I can't pay anyone right now as the project is only myself.

While checking forums, I found the bulk of people looking for volunteer programmers, just have an idea and want someone to do the work for them. Unlike most of these people, I'm at least putting the time in to take care of the art.

I'm looking for someone who is willing to stay motivated and learn how to use the Torque game engine 1.5 OR if they have a better solution. Shoot me an email if you're reading this and can meet those requirements.

Customized Armor














I did a mock up of an inventory screen today. I want the players to have as much customization as possible. As a player levels, they will be able to select where they would like to upgrade their armor. Initially the character will have 1 slot for each area. As they complete quests and level, they will be given additional slots. I haven't determined the max, it will be the same for each class, however, the layout may be different.

For this specific Exectioner, he will carry a large one handed Amplifier. But there may be a duel wielding class that will have 3 slots per hand, allowing more customization per hand.

Emporer's New Clothes

I've been selfishly playing video games and neglecting the process of getting ideas out of my head. I've had this image on my computer for over a month and a half. Not sure why I couldn't work on it, I wanted to try and sketch up the clothes but ended up putting some "models" in. (Tyra Banks, eat your heart out!) I'm glad I did, I decided I want Traducers to have punk haircuts, I think the cuts work well with the sporty leather trenchcoats.

Outfit

I was looking through some concept art and realized I need to distinguish the three Traducers a little more with their clothing. I hope to make the Executioner's clothing resemble more like a trench-coat, the Corruptor's will look more like a dress with only a few layers), the Torturer's will pretty much stay the way it is (very layered) but with a better pattern. I'm going to draw out some patterns and post them. The Torturer is a little different than the other two because she is the most Melee of the three classes. Her armor is a little heavier hence the headgear and larger shoulder pads.

All the patterns will be glowing, at least thats what the imagery looks like in my head....

Torturer redone


I took the pose from the first Torturer, reduced the opacity to about 20% and printed it out. Once printed I went to town with a pen to block in some more details. I was a little happier with the results.

I should run for a political position, because I flip-flop on my ideas everyday. I removed the corrupted arms and just went with the whips again. However, I gave this Torturer some needed armor in her shoulders and I made her robes were a little thicker.

Another Torturer



This one came out a little smoother, however, I did have a little problem with the pose. Not only am I trying to come up with some interesting concepts, I'm also trying to make my illustrations look a little more complicated. I've gotten too comfortable drawing straight on shots.

I had yet another Idea for the corrupter arms, maybe make that an upgradeable feature and let the player select what type of arms they want. Who knows, I'm still writing the design document.

Torturer With arms and Whips


After going to bed last night, I thought about some major changes I'd like to do to the Traducers. I think it'll be for the best. One example of the change will be to have not only the Corruptor class develop corrupted arms but the Torturer as well. On a game play level, it will be cool to see 2 whips flapping around as well as extra arms.

I've also decided to make the Torturer's 'corrupted arms' have an eye and a mouth. I think that their role will create another story element. Think of them as a conscious, a devil and an angel. Almost like a two headed ogre, they'll fight.

I had a hard time drawing the Torturer, It seems the more I visualize the character, the harder it is to get it from my brain to the paper.

Hopefuly I'll get a chance to draw a few more.

Traducers Pt. 4 - Torture


Even though it's not as clean as I would like it nor is it the original concept, here it is, the first version of a Torture. Similar to a Katar dagger, they're equipped with weapons called Fussion blades. On the side of the blade, there is a shard of a Rayon allowing them to do massive damage at close range..

From a designers standpoint, the weapon will pulsate with energy creating a pretty cool effect. The concept's weapon originally called for a whip. I'm not sure if it fits the Traducer's image well.

I'm not at all happy with the composition, especially the hair but it is concept after all. I'll try to put out a few more "sketches" over the next few days.

I played around with some color today on an Amp. I'm still not sure what I can see in my head. I think I want more of a cylinder with the little black things coming off like pitchforks. This is more flat than I wanted it to be. Ill try again tomorrow I guess.

Infinitia and the Immortals

I didn't get a chance to work on any drawings today, I feel guilty. However, an interesting concept came to mind based on the Relics. Theres always two points on any timeline; a beginning and an end. Based on that, I believe for someone to achieve immortality they would have no beginning or end, they would just 'be.'

If there was a symbol to describe an immortals timeline it would be a circle, no endpoints to describe a birth or death. I thought this would be a great basis for the demon relics. There's a book of Pasts (a beginning point), the Present (the distance of the line) and of Futures (the end). Nobody existed at the beginning and nobody will ever witness the end so to see what they would be like would be some interesting art.

The circle is a completely different dimension that is pretty incomprehensible, don't think too long on it or your mind may explode.

Amplifiers and Rayon


Out of all the Traducers, only Executioners equip themselves with the unique weapon known as an Amplifier. As a guard transcends through time, he gets a glimpse at technology. As an Executioner, it's their obligation to use the technology discovered to design a weapon worthy of vengeance and delivering chaos.

All Amplifiers hold a Rayon. Using the sophisticated technology, an Amplifier charges the Rayon to produce an effect similar to the fiercest lightning storm. They are designed after the dark matter they produce. Their casing is forged using the ancient metals and a black stone similar to Onyx.



These are a few Amp designs I came up with, unfortunately, I haven't had the chance to clean them up nor drop some color. Hopefully I'll get to that tomorrow.

Full Frontal



To continue with our journey through Corruptor concept, I have devised a frontal view for a 3d artist to take full advantage. As you can see, the 'corrupt arms' spring from the back, in this case, I have only drawn four but depending on the Corruptor, they could have more.

I've also designed the clothes a little more, the thing sticking out the back is kinda a cloth that covers the holes where the arms come out of the back. When I get to a back view, it should make more sense.

Overall, this image was meant to be more of a reference for a modeler and less artistic.

Traducers Pt 3, Executioner

I still have a lot of work to do with the Corruptor class but I thought I would move onto explaining the Executioners. An Executioner may look very similiar to a Corruptor, they both share the same body characteristics and black attire wrapped with belts but they do have some major differences.

Executioners lack "corrupted arms," the tentacle like hands that spring from their back. Executioners care less for dark magics and rely more on technology.



Executioners also carry a weapon called an Amplifier. Some Amplifiers resemble handguns while others look like massive cannons. Both versions focus Myonic energy out of a special gem called a Rayon.

Because of their agility and stealthiness, they are considered to be the kings top assassins.

Myonic Energies

I would like to share my idea of the effect caused when Myonic energy is used. I still want to focus on the characters, but I feel the energy is as much apart of them as their robes.

Although this picture is still in the early stage, I feel it is becoming more distinct. I want it to have a dark lightning feel. I keep seeing a bright blue glow within the dark matter. Expect to see an update tomorrow.


Art Update:
At this stage, the image is a little more choatic than the usual. Like I said earlier, it was just a way for myself to get the idea out of what Myonic energy will look like. I envisioned a black cloud that moves like flowing water ( those are the faint grey lines). The actual Energy is portrayed as lightning. In the future, as I grasp the concept more, the art will be more refined. When I introde the weapons used by the Executioners, they will be a kick back to the clouds.

The book of the Futures


Daemonican is based around three items called the Demon Relics. Long ago, three wizards locked themselves inside a tower. For Centuries they studied to find a spell of immortality. They cooperated with the same vision until greed, power and selfishness destroyed their friendship. They backstabbed one another, sabotaging each other's attempts at discovering a holy grail until finally they locked their fates and physical being inside seperate tomes. Cursed forever they were sealed inside three books; Pasts, Present and Futures. Still able to speak, their face is spokesman for the very book are fused in.

Inside his depressing Kingdom of East Edingar, King Rejak CI (The One Hundred-First King), sits in misery. He inherited the Tome of Futures, a book that has forever cursed him and his people. The book, much like a fortune seeing ball, allows the viewer to see their future at a gamble. The price, as King Rejak and many Traducers found, twists minds and causes insanity. Some look at this as an advantage and use the book's power to discover new weapons, technology and magic improving their abilities to provide protection to their very giving king.

Traducers Pt. 2,The Corruptor

Corruptors can see deep into their victim's soul, manipulating their darkest thoughts and turing it against them. Corruptors are also masters of using an energy source called Myonic.

Myonic energy takes the shape of many different things. It allows any Corruptor the power to summon a dark cloud that envelopes their prey and surges them with extremely lethal jolts of energy.

Before being twisted into a Traducer, these Royal Guards practiced dark magic. It is believed that the arms growing from their back appeared because of the magic dwelling inside them taking a living form. It takes much discipline for a Corruptor to control them.


Art Update:

Although he's not Corruptor, I did a sketch during lunch today. This is an example of a Executor. They use the same Myonic energy as a Corruptor but they focus it through their technology. I will go over them in a few days.

Progress Continues...


I didn't expect to spend the day looking for a decent slide show program that would work with Web Albums. Sometimes I wish I was a programmer... Ok well not the WHOLE day, I was able to get my Picasa account setup and a few images uploaded. I have more art but I would like to rework them first.

Art Update
I really like the current Traducer I'm working on, going to clean him up and hopefully post it tomorrow. It's a hard transition for me to clean these images, I really like how gritty the original looks.

The Traducer Pt. 1

So far, they are one of my favorite classes and a lot of great ideas have snowballed from their concept.

Basically the Traducer is a Royal guard for the corrupted King Rejak. They exist to protect their king and his treasure. They find sanctity in combining futuristic technology with their own dark powers. Characteristically, they sport lanky bodies (especially their arms), dreaded hair (usually up in a ponytail), robe-like garments wrapped tight by belts, and some glow from gems infused into their bodies.

Their weapons compliment their style very well. I'll post a few weapons in the future, but for now I'll stay focused on the characters.
